Menstrual Products Pilot Survey

Following Governor Cuomo’s recent proposal that requires the NYC school district to provide free menstrual hygiene products in restrooms for girls in grades 6 through 12, I would like to bring that initiative over to FIT. Joining in support of “menstrual equity,” the goal is to have free, accessible menstrual products in the female and gender-neutral restrooms on campus. Currently on our campus, we have to pay a quarter for these products and in addition to that, some of the dispensers do not work. Nowadays, you can start seeing a shift in how people are approaching menstrual care and how we are removing the stigma behind the cycle. Universities such as Emory University, Harvard University, University of South Florida, Colgate University, Brown University, and so many more have started to provide free menstrual products in the female bathrooms. Brown University was the first university to stock all female, male, and gender-neutral bathrooms, covering all demographics on campus. Amongst the SUNY system, campuses such as Stony Brook University, the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Plattsburgh, and SUNY Oswego have implemented their own program on their campuses. Welcome Back FIT!

To The FIT Student Body: My name is Natalie Ho and I am your FIT Student Government Association President, the first female SGA President in 5 years. As your student government president, I’d like to join everyone else in welcoming you to the FIT Community. Three years ago, if you had told me that I would be here today in front of you as your SGA president I would have never believed you. I never would have thought that I would be where I am now.  But before I get into all of the reasons why I love FIT, I think it’s important that you know a little about me, after all, all of us are now forever linked by this shared experience. I know I’ll never forget today and I hope you won’t either. Now like many of you, FIT was my top choice and I spent years leading up to my orientation dreaming of what it would be like to grow and learn on 27th and 7th. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and still commute to and from campus almost every day. But unlike all of you, this is my last year at FIT and in May I will be finishing up my bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications after previously graduating with an Associates in Fashion Business Management. At FIT, graduation feels so nice, most of us do it twice! For so many reasons I call FIT my home away from home. To me FIT isn’t just “fashion”. To me, FIT is a place that is ever changing and evolving because we, the...

President Brown Town Hall

On April 19th, our Director of Student Advocacy, Molly Dunbar, held a Town Hall that included Dr. Brown and her entire cabinet. Students, faculty, and staff were able to present their questions for direct answers from President Brown herself. Dr. Brown also gave her State of the College Address where she spoke about the status of the new building, SUNY Korea, Kaufman Hall construction, and the new graduate courses in Brooklyn. Earlier this year, students were able to study Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management at Korea for the first time ever. Currently at SUNY Korea, FIT and Stony Brook are the only schools offering programs on campus. Kaufman Hall will now open a backdoor entrance for easier move in and out accessibility. Con Edison will be fixing the back end of 9th avenue so residents can expect to hear some noise late night to early morning on the lower levels. FIT now is offering graduate courses in Sunset Park, Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Their most notable one is their Drones! Learn To Fly (RPT 100) course. A multitude of topics had been asked about, ranging from campus accessibility, the new building, residence halls, etc. The topic of main conversation was campus accessibility. Accessibility has been an issue on campus for some time, the administration got to hear first hand about the struggles of navigating the college. Should you have any further questions, and would like them to be sent to the president’s office for review, please email the Student Government Association account at...
